PS6 (PlayStation 6): news and expected price, release date, specifications; and more rumors (2023)

The latest PlayStation arrived in 2020, but it's never a bad time to start talking about what's next. The PS6, which is still a few years away, will allow you to expand internal storage more easily since it's thinner than thatps5and (if we can dream) include improvements like a wireless charger and modular upgrade capabilities.

When will the PS6 appear?

For years it has been said that we will do itReach the end of the traditional game console. We could shrink Sony down to a flash drive-like device that plugs into your TVstages, perhaps? Possibly. Let's assume the PS6 is in the works for now.

Sony releases a new PlayStation every few years. Since the PS3, Sony has released a new console at the end of the year, so we expect the same for the PS6.

A Sony executive endorses this release cycle:

In fact, the cycle of a new platform was 7-10 years in the past, but due to the rapid development and evolution of technology, it is actually a platform cycle of 6-7 years.

An indicator that we will see in this console is thisSony has already secured the brand for versions up to the PS10. That doesn't prove anything, of course, but it does hint at some kind of future.

Another important event is the relationship between Sony starting development of a new PlayStation and its actual release. We shouldn't take this as evidence, but it's interesting to consider:

  • PS4 development began in 2008 and was released five years later.
  • PS5 development began in 2015 and was released five years later.
  • Based on a 2021 Sony job ad hinting at the development of a new console, we can assume the PS6 release date will be around 2026.

Lifewire Release Date Estimate

Since the PS5 was made available in November 2020, it probably won't be available until the same month, 2026 or 2027 (the possibly included 2028), we see a PlayStation 6. Just in time for Christmas shopping! (Assuming Sony can keep up with the demand.)

(Video) PlayStation 6 Release Date, Features, Specifications [Everything You Should Know]

In the meantime, if Sony follows the PS4 release schedule, we'll see a PS5 Pro or Slim ahead of the PS6. A source claims soSony's new PS5 will have a removable driveconnected to the console via a USB-C port on the back and could release around September 2023.

PS6 price rumors

The latest consoles cost between $400 and $500. There is no telling what kind of hardware, additional features or improvements the last generation PlayStation might have that would affect its price one way or another.

For now, assume that it could cost up to $600.

Pre-order information

Pre-orders begin some time after Sony officially announces the console and will be available through the official website.Website von PlayStation. We'll let you know what to expect when the time comes.

PS6 features

All details at this stage are simply hopes and wishes. However, some features we can assume with some accuracy as things keep changing with new iterations of a gaming console. Don't take anything too seriously just yet.

(Video) PS6 release date confirmed! Microsoft forces Sony to reveal plan

  • Built-in WiFi:Modern PlayStations already connect to the internet wirelessly, but we're referring here to an area on top of the console, or perhaps via a sliding arm that can charge accessories. Put your phone, headphones, controllers and anything that supports wireless charging inside. It might seem strange at first, but taking advantage of the PS6's always-on state to carry your everyday stuff (and the PS6 controller) would be great. Add the wireless headset adapter to the console and you can ditch the DualSense charging station and wireless USB dongle.
  • Storage improvements:If the internal hard drive is not large enough for your needs,Expansion of PS5 storageit is possible, but it is not easy. We hope Sony makes the internals of the PS6 more accessible, making it easier to swap out the hard drive for something more useful, e.g. B. through a plug-and-go model. Sure, you can use an external drive, but you won't get anywhere near the read speeds you're used to with the internal NVMe SSD. If not for a new way to upgrade the drive, a larger SSD would suffice for most people.
  • Integration with Virtual Reality:This is where the games go. We currently have separate devices that we need to purchase to connect to our existing computers and consoles in order to benefit from itvirtual realitygames. Perhaps the PS6 is when Sony bundles motion controllers and headphones into the same console box. never know!
  • Maximum compatibility with previous versions:We want to buy a game knowing we can play it for a long time. The PS6 must be compatible with games from older consoles, ideally first generation PlayStation.
  • Updated UI:It's not uncommon to see an overhauled UI with a new version of a technology, especially when it comes to a console that has a half-decade lifecycle. The PlayStation Store is getting an update, hopefully with better browsing options.
  • smaller project:PS5 is loud. Depending on where you place it in space, you and anyone looking at it will know it's there. And you might like that, but if you don't, there's a smaller console available. Hopefully the PS6 will tone it down a bit, and it probably will too. At least we don't expect a matchgreaterOne, so we hope it can match your other items better.
  • Modulare Updates:Splitting the PlayStation into smaller parts would mean that if an upgrade is desired or needed, each part can be swapped out for a newer one. Just like a standard PC, you can expand the console over the years as the hardware improves without having to buy everything new every few years. Will this happen with the PS6? We can only hope. There's no reason to think we'll see him anytime soon, thoughit couldHope. To the right?
  • Game Series Centers:Playing a series in order is an unnecessary headache. Suggested by, proposed byTom guide, Sony needs to make it easy for gamers to buy a full set of games from the same series. Or at least put the series in order in an easy-to-follow list so you can clearly see where you stand in the mix of remakes and re-releases.
  • Digital Only Console:Along with phones without a charging port or headphone jack, unpowered consoles (think PS5 Digital Edition andXbox-Serie) aren't for everyone, but we may be moving in that direction. If you collect physical games and movies, you wouldn't be happy with a PS6 without disc support, but with faster internet speeds and an obvious move to streaming, it would make sense to at least one day ditch the drive .disk altogether.

PS6 specs and hardware

The PlayStation 6 will certainly improve in more features than those listed above, but with launch still several years away, it doesn't make much sense to guess now what kind of hardware will be available by then.

However, in general, expect a PlayStation with an even faster, more powerful CPU and more responsive controls.

A fully made up just for fun concept video released by DZ Migo is a vision of the console in terms of design. Much like the creator's other wacky concepts, it portrays the PS6 as clunky and dark, with elements presumably borrowed from various Xbox versions that are quite different from the PS5. there is anotherrender completely different here than on PS6.

On the other hand, Sony could go in the opposite direction and opt for something minimal, borrowing design cues from older consoles. At least that's the idea withthis PS6 concept by Yanko Design:

We'll learn more about the console's design, games, backwards compatibility, controller and headset, and more hardware details as we get closer to launch.
